GMC Yukon Performance
There are three engines available on the GMC Yukon. The first is a 5.3-liter V8 that makes 355 horsepower and is standard on the Elevation and AT4 trims. The second engine is a 6.2-liter V8 that makes 420 horsepower, which is standard on the Denali and Denali Ultimate trims and is available on the AT4. The Yukon can be fitted with a 3.0-liter diesel I6 tuned for 305 horsepower and 495 pound-feet of torque for drivers looking for a lot of torque. Regardless of the engine choice, the GMC Yukon has a ten-speed automatic transmission that sends power to the rear or all four wheels.
Drivers looking to tow with their GMC Yukon can pull up to 8,400 pounds with the 5.3-liter gas engine. The 6.2-liter and the diesel are both rated for 8,200 pounds. Drivers who want a four-wheel drive will lose about 200 pounds in towing capacity.
While it is unlikely that anyone will set a track record with the Yukon, with the 6.2-liter, it can get up to 60 mph in as little as six seconds.
GMC Yukon Safety
The GMC Yukon offers drivers a lot of safety tech. Automated braking is standard if the Yukon detects an imminent collision. Drivers can add high-tech features like night vision and thermal object detection, allowing drivers to see further than headlights allow at night and highlighting pedestrians or wildlife. Drivers can also add lane departure warnings, lane-keeping assist, and adaptive cruise control. The Yukon is available with GMs hands-free driving feature called Super Cruise.
GMC Yukon Tech Features
The infotainment system of the GMC Yukon is built on a Google-based software. The system runs through a huge 16.8-inch touchscreen. Drivers can customize their infotainment system with downloadable apps. The system includes a Wi-Fi hotspot and offers wireless phone connectivity with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The system can be explained with a second 8.0-inch screen for the second row that can control heating and cooling or upgraded further to its own infotainment system. Drivers can update the audio for a Bose sound system with 22 speakers, some located in the headrests.
GMC Yukon Interior Refinements
The interior of the GMC Yukon is spacious, even more spacious for drivers choosing the longer Yukon XL. Both offer seating for up to eight, with front passengers getting nearly 45 inches of legroom. Second-row passengers get 42 inches of legroom and can sit in optional captain's chairs, which cuts the capacity to seven. The third row offers nearly 35 inches of legroom. Lower trims offer cloth seats, while the Denali trims offer heated and ventilated leather with massage features. Higher trim also offers fine wood trim, laser-etched accents, and chrome trim.
The cargo capacity of the Yukon is nearly 26 cubic feet with all the rows up. Folding the third row offers drivers about 72 cubic feet. Folding all the rows down opens the cargo capacity to nearly 123 cubic feet, perfect for picking up material from the hardware store or carrying furniture.
GMC Yukon Exterior Design
The exterior of the GMC Yukon offers a rugged yet refined appearance. Following much of the same design language of GMC trucks like the Sierra, the Yukon has a large front grille. The sides are flanked with trim lines to break up their large size.
GMC Yukon Trims
The base trim is the Elevation that offers few refinements but a lot of room. The AT4 is next and offers drivers an off-road package with some trim-specific designs. The Denali is the start of the premium trims, with many of the refinements that Claxton drivers seek. The AT4 Ultimate offers off-road driving abilities and a well-trimmed interior. And the Denali Ultimate is a finely appointed machine with nearly every feature drivers could want.
